Field Trip...

After all the busy duties and works of the entire week, I finally got to enjoy my Friday with a trip to StarHub. That's where they print the newspapers for Central areas.
I learned a lot from this trip, truthfully speaking. I learned that newspapers are important, people behind it put in many effort, everyday. Being in the printing presses is not easy. Deadlines in every day, long working hours. Also, production cost is not CHEAP. You're paying RM 1.20 for a copy. In reality, the actual cost is about RM2.50. Thanks to the ads. Gave me a hit on head. There's so many people working behind the news. Their main duty is to bring informant and news to every Malaysians. They serve Malaysians everyday. I appreciate their work by buying a copy of newspaper. Showing gratitude from journalists, photographers, operators, technicians, vendors, everyone involved in producing newspapers.

I read newspapers everyday. No lies. I knew many young people won't do. You don't care about what's happening around or what? If you DO read, probably just the online version. There's just a small part of the story. You're reading online because of what? Free-Of-Charge? I don't really read online. I prefer a newspaper.

This is the location. Not far. In Shah Alam.

The front entrance.

This is how it looks like inside.

Read this comic strip! They include most of the people from The Star, including Wong Chun Wai.

They gave free copies of Galaxie magazine.

My free issue of The Star, 7th October 2011. It's without StarMetro and Star2. Only the main paper.

Those were some of my juniors, queuing up to buy food in the cafeteria. I think this will be the place I spend my desperation moments of I go to StarHub for internship...

Those were our guides for the trip. My group were assisted by Mr. Mun, standing on the right.

Sorry. I don't post pictures on what's inside the newspaper production because cameras were not allow in. I'll just narrate roughly.

We saw how the 'plates' were produced. They were the ones as the blueprints for every pages. Guess how many plates they use. 1 for a black and white page. 2 or 3 for a colour page. There's about hundred pages for newspaper everyday. Do the calculations...

The layout artist sent them to Shah Alam from the office in SS 16, Petaling Jaya.
When we're there, they were producing blueprints for Star2 Weekend. And print it out later.

Don't think that recycled papers were used to print newspaper. NO. It's actually paper. I can't recall what's the name. 1 tonne of paper cost about few hundreds US Dollars. Mr. Mun said they need hundreds of cartoons/tonnes to print newspapers for the Central region (Selangor to Negeri Sembilan).  Hear it?!

There was a technical problem while printing the Star2 Weekend. The paper jammed. The workers have to throw out rolls of newspapers out. You know how much there was. I roughly examined, about 50 copies of Star2. 50!!! Threw away.... Such a waste...
Therefore I managed to tear out a copy as a souvenir. I'm reading 8th October's news on 7th October! Woohoo!!! Sounds proud...

That's all for the trip to StaHub.
I learned a lot of things.
I appreciate newspapers more than ever.
I feel much gratitude to the workers from Star Publications, from A-Z.

Thanks for giving us information and knowledges!!!
