'Friends' on Twitter...

1st of all, how am I going to start it...?

'Friends'? How you define it? People you knew well personally through face to face interaction? People you knew about on bits and part, like the basic information of name, job description etc.? Try figure... I don't have the answers too...

Today, the definition of 'friends' had blurred. 'Friends' may be those that you interact with on a day-to-day basis, that you knew (doesn't matter if you knew them well or not). There's the 'Facebook friends'. 'Facebook friends', as what I found from Urban Edge, (urbanedgeny.com) defined it as "individuals who have mutually agreed to be Facebook friends, allowing you to view information on their profile, follow each other's postings, post on each other's wall etc. Either party can request to be a friend, but the other party must accept the request". Huh? Some definition right there...
To sum it up, people who want to be friends with each other on Facebook.

I had numbers (how much in total by the way...?) of Facebook friends... Some I knew in the past and present. There were some I barely knew. Just met them a few times before in life. That's it!
Anyway, I'm not a big Facebook fan. I rarely post statuses there. Wouldn't I'll be looking like an attention-whore if I kept updating my status... every 5 minutes? And also, I think that the 'Like' button is too overrated. You clicked 'like' because you really 'like' it? Or just for fun?
Forget Facebook. The account was there mainly because there are groups I'm in and I need information from group updates. Just that...

What I'm more interested at is on Twitter!
Love it so much! It was because you can interact with anyone (YES, ANY SINGLE ONE) on Twitter. With the condition you made your Tweets public for other to see.
On Twitter you can Tweet every walking seconds without anyone finding you annoying. I guess that was why Twitter for, you update (literally) non-stop... without someone judging you and calling 'attention-whore' behind you. Ha ha, ha!

Currently I'm following 73 people on Twitter, which included old school friends, news updates from online news, politicians and some interesting people. Take note of interesting people because this blog will be about them...

This guy i followed, according to my old school friend Yu Liang (who also happened to be one of my Twitter friends), the guy was his ex-lecturer in Sunway. Currently doing his thesis. That dude... He was so darn funny... He was sarcastic in a funny way in his Tweets. A small little thing he can turned into something superbly hilarious!

Next up, another guy. Related (not through blood) to the 1st person. I came to know from 1st guy that he and 2nd guy were in a band. Yes! A singing one! 1st guy is one of the vocalist while 2nd guy is the rapper. 2nd guy knew Chinese too! Woah! Suddenly I'm so proud to be Chinese...! Ha, ha, ha!

Thirdly, a Mass Comm student from UiTM Shah Alam. I blogged before on helping someone on Twitter, he was the one! Another sarcastic Twitter-user from Malaysia! Also a Mass Comm student as I am... It was my burning curiosity that had he approached me to translate the Chinese texts... Basically that was the story.

Also, I followed this journalist from a local news publishing company... Ha, ha, ha! I knew lots of political news from him, from West to East Malaysia. Quoted from his Tweet, "We are jiran. Separated by (future) LRT". He lived opposite me, just across the (currently under construction) Jalan Kewajipan... This ex-Form 6 classmate and friend, Ju Yi once said he interviewed her father for his article. Her relative, who happens to be the journalist's colleague, introduced Mr. Ho to him. Ha, ha, ha! The world is so SMALL! Smaller even in the social network world!

Lastly, another lecturer from KL. I bought up his name during K's class. What stunned me was when K  told me he knew this lecturer! "Yes, he's PhD in Political Science..." said K.
Er... Left me speechless at the end of the class.
This afternoon, I was being another busybody on Twitter (again)... One of today's news was the 2013 Budget from Pakatan government. The lecturer, he is a member in one of the political parties in Pakatan. Yes. And involved in doing the Budget. So the 'Mikhael Blomkvist' in me surfaced, just wanting to check whether K's claims are right or not... Then I told him the story,"... I was told by this person yesterday that he knew you... Ha, ha, ha!". He replied by asking who is the person and I gave K's name to him. K's name is too common. Type into Google and you can see tonnes of people with the same name... The lecturer answered he knew *K's full name* from LaSalle. "Which LaSalle? I knew there's few LaSalles in Malaysia. LOL" I Tweeted a reply.
He asked which *K's name* I was attending. "lecturer. Ha, ha, ha!".
So he REALLY knew K! And knew K worked with MalaysiaKini before! "yes. Him!". To double confirm we're talking about the same person, no misunderstandings! He Tweeted to me telling me to say hi to K and he haven't seen him for some time...
'Mikhael Blomkvist' is still there inside me... Kept on asking... "... You're not happen to teach mass comm in Cheras right?". He replied saying he had no experience in journalism... "it's fine. You can teach other related fields mass comm can make use of. Ha, ha!"
At last, he asked where I am doing my degree. "where K teaches. Inti."
*end of conversation*

Another case in this month: I 'picked' on a politician, asking him if I can interview him for assignment...  That was another absurd outburst on Twitter...

Writer's note: Re-emphasise again, I love Twitter so much. Felt connected with those people on the virtue world, even if I never met them in real life. I believe that, there's some days I can meet some of the people on I followed... Maybe we DO turn out as 'friends'... Who knows?!

Be friendly yet professional...

I'm not brave yet I'm not shy either.
For the past 2 weeks, I gather all my guts to go and talk to people. Not randomly but with a purpose. The purpose of knowing and writing my news.
How can a person is going to look for information without trying hard to gain it?

For an event that took place last 2 weeks, I am (unconsciously) brave enough to walk up to the 2 big management people of my uni to talk to them. I expect a rough reception from them actually. Who could love a nosy-future-journalist to come over randomly and ask silly things? At a point, I thought I was about to be throw out by them.
Things in life always goes opposite. I expected the worst however I got a unexpected warm treatment from them. They are in fact very cooperative. Their treatment made me felt warm... If (stressing the word) only, people out there are so nice... (Basically this is merely a DREAM, unrealistic expectation)

Other than them, I met this chairperson of the club that organized the event. Ha, ha! It was coincidence I saw him the other day. Who else better to fit into my article other than the VIPs? The hardworking people that made the event successful. Well, the truth was, I only need one. Just the chairperson will do. He can speak on behalf of his team.
The interview with him... I guessed I made it too formal. It wasn't awkward at all. Just that I find sometimes being too formal, too inquisitive is just... weird.

I'm in profession that required me to talk to all sorts of people, in a professional manner. Professional huh? Business-like? Initially I thought yes to it... but being professional, business-like, wouldn't that makes someone wanna distance away from you?
OK, just be friendly to the people you met however do maintain certain degree of professionalism in your work... Cut the business-like meeting crap. Be reminded this is not a PR work whatsoever. It's journalism, a more humane and factual approach.

The assignment for today. Look for a something serious that happened in the uni. I had in mind what I want to write about... it's on a case of laptop stealing in hostel.
Who are involved in the article: my source (foremost), the victims, security guards and authority figures.   There comes the Mikhael Blomkvist of me. Ha, ha, ha!
This incident that took place today, was I suffering some sort of head concussion/blackout? I wasn't aware what happened around me in the CC office today... I don't know what happened really yet I can perceived the 'situation is not right'...

I want to voice out something to someone:
"To who you are (the lovely friend of mine that works in uni) so sorry for getting people to storm into your office and caused you, well maybe uncomfortable. I sincerely apologise..."

Writers' note: My next assignment would be the politician interview (yes to joy! No to stress!). I found this member of parliament which I think is one of the most suitable person to interview (Do refer to Twitter and Facebook to know what happened. Done something absurd last week). Need to plan the interview and make an appointment to that. God bless my interview to be successfully conducted!
Thought of being a writer again by rewriting the story I abandoned... Bad news is, I forgotten the storyline I had planned for it!

'The Dog and the Lamp Post'

This was a joke I heard from none other than K, more than a year ago...
Until yesterday, I mentioned to Ju Yi about the 'dog-lamp-post' joke. Was told to write a blog post on this...

This article discussed about the special relationship between dog and lamp post. Please read it if you don't understand.
This was actually a term, traditional I can say, to showcase the relationship between journalists and politicians. Who is 'the dog'? Who is 'the lamp post'? Is journalist the 'dog'? Not really. They are the society's watchdog, indeed. But they can't really be the 'dog'. Who watches the media if they do any wrongdoings? The government/politicians? The roles were indeed blurred... The relationship between a journalist and politician... 'frenemies'. Ha, ha, ha! I learned this term back few years ago, during the blonde-dominated-reality-series-era. Friends but not really friends. Enemies yet a true enemies.
For me, I see an 'exchange' in terms of the relationship between journalists and politicians. Journalists want to get, probe them for news and watch their wrongdoings... While politicians, they want journalists to report on them, get them to... promote (?) about them.

The dilemma in journalist's relationships with their subjects... It's a career filled with grey areas, everywhere.

The scene of a dog barking at a lamp post or pissing at the lamp post.
We don't really see it much in Malaysia such scenario. Our lamp post are more taller and modern. Unlike the ones in England where they're shorter and looked traditional. (Go Google lamp post in England's images! Ha, ha, ha!)

Journalism, build based on politics. Journalism and politics, they are inter-related, that's what I can say.
There will be politics in most field of journalism, be it sports or business.
Who are the 'dog' and 'lamp post'?
Who watches and guardes over whom?

Writer's note: Hopefully I won't have the dilemma of relationship with my other half in the future... Wishing for a normal and decent relationship. A love relationship. Only love, no other elements. Still, I love the work challenges of a journalist... Guess I won't give up this career. Ha, ha, ha! I wouldn't really want to do general news specifically in the future. I'm more keen to entertainment or sports...

Gone Mac...

Ha, ha, ha! This would be one of my random post.
Officially, I had switched to Mac now! Goodbye Windows, but not permanently. I still will use Windows once in a while and in my future workplace.
Literally I'm not anyone in the creative or design department, so it won't be necessary I request a Mac Pro on my desk right? Absurd.

I told (almost) everyone on Twitter the reason(s) I wanted a Mac... One, I can't stand Windows anymore and two, Mac is better than Windows. Both reasons may reflect I'm unbearable... But still, I want change. Change is in fact good, if the person do embrace it with an open heart...

Initially I thought I couldn't catch up with the OS X. Surprisingly, I learned the basics in within 15 minutes... Woah! Couldn't believe it myself too! Simpler than Windows? Can say so... However, I still need time adapting. Been a Windows user since I started using computers. Switching to OS X indeed need time, time to pick up OS X 'habit' and throwing the good ol' Windows 'habit'. Ha, ha, ha!

I'm not any poser, taking pictures of my Mac from all angles. This is the only and the best Mac shot I did. Maybe if I'm free I'll do it, in addition with a DSLR camera... Ha, ha, ha!

As mentioned briefly, change is good but you'll need time to adopt.

Writer's note: Currently happily using this new found 'buddy'. So my 'buddy' be nice to me, OK?! Don't repeat the mistakes made by previous 'buddy'. Besides that, I'm looking forward meeting a girl friend who's out for internship in this week. Miss and worry about her, really...
