Finals then movie trip then girls-get-together outing (in planning) and lastly Macau...

I try to make this as short as possible...
Basically the title of this blog post has gave out what I wanted to say.

1. Finals
Currently doing my finals. This is my most hectic semester, ever! Things seems not to end.

2. Movie trip
Was planned back in October (as I recall) with a friend of mine, 'Adik'. Initially we planned to go for 'Skyfall'. However we couldn't seem to find the suitable time. Until now... Coincidently, our finals end on the same day! And me and some of our friends are going for the movie.

3. Girls-get-together outing
Whatsapp-ed my ex-schoolmate, Ju Yi to tell her about this planned outing. Honestly, I haven't seen her since F6! I miss her! Hopefully this outing can work out! Feels like celebrating her post-birthday.

4. Macau
Yes!!! My passport can be in use after 4 years! If not the RM 300 is put to a waste. Anxious to be abroad since my Taiwan trip four years ago... Will Twitpic, upload on Facebook and blog about the trip once I return to Malaysia. Do I sound\ like those tour bloggers? Ha, ha, ha!

Signing off for this week.
Until next week.

Writer's note: Hopefully I can score in my finals. Lack of confidence as usual... That's me.

Without Social Network, for now...

As at this morning I had deactivated my Twitter account. For almost two years of using Twitter, I had NEVER once deactivated my Twitter account.

(At this moment) it had been more than eight hours since I deactivated my Twitter account. I PROMISED to stay away for AT LEAST a day, just 24 hours... I can do it!

Life took a 180 degrees change when I joined Twitter. Initially, it was very boring. I rarely follow anyone. I found some of my F6 classmates later and the Twitter circle had expanded. I fell in love with this micro-blogging site, 'madly'. I Tweet more than 30 times a day, according to some Twitter statistics.  Take the amount of 30 Tweets a day. There is 24 hours a day, which means I Tweet 1.25 Tweets per hours. In a matter of fact, I think it is more than 1.25 Tweets per day. That was just a rough calculation.

I read this article entitled "A Twitter over 'death'". The columnist stated, "I felt so isolated because I could not connect with my Twitter friends and share the frustration that Twitter was down... It is not as if I'm a Twitter addict. I've stopped tweeting while I'm having a meal with someone. I can live without Twitter".

I am feeling isolated right this moment because I feel disconnected to Twitter-sphere. I might have missed something today. The columnist also stated that he got the news of a journalist killed in Somalia from a user. Similar to him, I got the news of a bomb scare in the Shah Alam courts from a Twitter user who happens to be a lawyer.

Twitter is indeed a nice space to 'hang around'. You tend to meet different kind of people that you followed, they followed you or both of you follows each other. I also love those sarcastic jokes on Twitter from various accounts.
What I do mostly on Twitter are bant-and-rant, gossip with my girl or sometimes guy friends, and interact with other users.
I thought I'll be clean from social network sites for today... However I can't hold my 'addiction' of going online. Think about it what do people ACTUALLY do when they surf the Internet? Before the Facebook and Twitter domination era, I surf the net mainly on YouTube and looking at the entertainment news. I spent an average of four hours online in two days. Nevertheless, times had changed dramatically. There is 24 hours a day, and still I feel that I don't have enough time to online. To accommodate my convenience of web-surfing, I switched to a data plan on my mobile so that I can be online for most of my walking hours. The only time I'm 'offline' would be the time I'm asleep. For the past eight hours, there were many thing I had came across that I wanted to Tweet. Wait! My account was deactivated and I (strongly) promised myself that I stay away for AT LEAST or MINIMUM 24 hours.
OK, I CAN DO it! (The statement doesn't sound convincing huh?)

There were some things that I came across for the past eight hours that I WOULD Tweet, given that my account is active;

1. "Being a Grammar Nazi of BM! Ha, ha, ha!"
2. "Girls, don't 'over-make up' on yourself. I can't recognize you when you're not in make up"
3. "Can I please have my desired subject for my final sem, please?!"
4. "LOL! Accountants are indeed calculative. They won't let go even for a cent!"
5. "Who wants 'souvenirs'?! Ha, ha, ha!!!"

Writer's note: I DON'T think that I can actually survive a day without Twitter. This deactivating serves as a fasting for me. Although I can survive without Facebook, I can't live a day without Twitter. Currently I am trying very hard, not to go to Twitter web to reactivate my account...

Of Turning Point In Politics...

This will be a musing (not forgetting banting) piece of opinion, from a student who wanted to get out and see the world she thought she knew.

I am interested in the art of politics, yet I hated it. I don't see why people are fighting over at a smallest matter. In addition with the media entering into the scene, the situation has become 'sensationalized' (is it a proper word to use anyway?).

Politics are everywhere. From the smallest organization unit to a large government unit.
Politics are inevitable. Somehow you will be drowned into a political scene not matter how much you avoid it. The elder you are, more political arena you will be involved (somehow).

Almost everyone in the world are paying attention (except me, I guess) to the upcoming Presidential Election in US. Obama-Romney, will the current President stay for another term or the Republicans will sit into the White House?
Just stay tuned to the news, social media on 6th and 7th November 2012 for the on-going elections and results thereafter.

Elections here and there. Indirectly, politics are here and there. Even at my university.
I was out from my comfort zone during 4pm today after I received a call from my friend. It was a small talk that she wanted me to come. It was a study-work program in the States. I am keen on going to the States. However, all of these can be planned after finishing my studies.

This opinion piece was meant for another event that I was not aware until about 30 minutes ago. The vote counting and results announcement of the new term of student council President and its' Vice Presidents. The upcoming student council team got my attention because a friend of mine was going for the highest position in the student council board. I had known him since my first day stepping into my university life. I wanted my friend to win, of course.
I arrived at half-way during the vote-counting. The President's results was utmost obvious. This friend of mine could not speed up to the chase. Another friend who was standing next to me, namely 'Boss' arrived few moments before me. He told me our friend got little votes. "So how? I can't see" I asked. "You see...? He's losing far behind. See that guy?!" said 'Boss' while pointing at the whiteboard.

Politics at university. Until today, I do not have a clear idea what does student councils are meant for in universities and colleges. It was always stated that student councils take care of the students' welfare. Students vote for those who they think are eligible to take care of their welfares. Did I get it right?
As an addition information, about 800 students voted for the new President and Vice President, out of 5000 students. What these numbers trying to tell? Low or high turn up rate?

Life in a university is a smaller version of the society. There is a lot of banting and rumours flying around, those who had extra privileges, ignorant people, those who are out to spoil and much more.

Decisions and results are obvious at a point, or maybe before the results are out, everyone knew about it.
My deepest regards to this friend who was not elected. You did your best.

This is my third final semester as a student. I would not be seeing how the new student council members be doing.

Writer's note: I am doing much of things that I have not done throughout my two-going-to-three years in uni.

The missing piece of me...

Before I start, here's a video to David Choi's 'Missing Piece'...

Well, it was just an introduction to this blog post. Nothing really.

It's a missing part in me.
I am studying in a private university which majority of the students are Chinese and Indians, with international students too.

I was educated in the Malaysian education system (the UPSR, PMR, SPM and STPM thing). What can I say from it...? Well... I'm blessed, I guess. Imagine all classmates from different racial backgrounds mingle together in a classroom, from strangers to friends. That was the miracle part of human interaction, cross-culturally. I am thankful my parents send me to the study in the Malaysian system, making me a Malaysian in heart. Proud being one.

13 years in Malaysian system (I had an extra two years because I took STPM as my pre-u. No college life for me after SPM). It had became a big significant and shaped the person I am now. A wannabe journalist/writer who can write and converse fairly enough in BM, English and Chinese.

I learned many things from people I grew up with, school friends and teachers. I picked up English through learning, reading (Harry Potter throughout my childhood!) and speaking with my friends. Same goes as BM too. Just that I rarely read Malay books except the KOMSAS ones our teachers told us to read.

Back then I had this feeling that my Malay was much better than my English. It was because most subjects I did in school like history, geography, arts, moral, living skills, accounting, economics were in Malay, obviously except maths and science.
Come on! Obviously a person can improve their language skills if they use it frequently...
Yes. I really learned a lot from all my Malay friends I met throughout school.
I had a number of Malay friends back in school. Looking back, it made me realised how much I missed the best times I had with them. Some, I still stay in contact. It's just a small number...

Actually it was the lessons I learned from them that were valuable.
Back then, I can't speak Malay as well as I was in school. I guess it was my Chinese background. Imagine me as a 10 year old girl speaking in Malay, in some 'Ah Moi' accent. I wasn't teased frankly speaking... It was just not impressive.

After coming to secondary school I met more Malay friends. There, throughout the daily interactions I tried to improve the way I speak. Less 'Ah Moi'-ish, more clear in pronunciation. I don't have problems in writing though. See... There's this thing, "you can write well but not necessary you can also speak well or inversely, you can speak well, but not necessary you can write well". Believe me I knew people who write well but can't speak well and vice versa.
Speaking needs a lot of practice so does writing. Someone, if you are about to come out to work in the corporate world, you'll need to speak and write a lot.

I had become less 'Ah Moi'-ish thanks to the guidance of my Malay friends.

Upon coming to uni, the environment took a 180 degree swift. I studied everything (ALMOST) in Malay. What?! Now it's in English?! I never have so much English subjects back in school and Form 6. Ironically the only English subject I did in Form 6 was MUET. Others all in BM. And now English in higher education. I was thinking, "why wouldn't we get more subjects in English?! How am I suppose to cope?!". The environment was complete different too. Majority of the students are Chinese and Indians with international students and a small amount of Malay. I was taken aback when I first set foot into uni. A big 'what' was held up in my head. I thought there should be equal...

I am going through my 2 years in uni until this group of MRSM students came to study American degree. Their arrival added more variety of colours to the community. I happened to know some of them. Not as close as I was with my classmates and friends back in school but we did get along well.

It was only yesterday I attended the Malay Cultural Society's gathering night and saw more of the MRSM students I had yet seen and some familiar faces I knew since they first came. I rarely go to clubs' gatherings in uni. I only go to those that I think it's worth going...
I was the only non-Malay local student (there was another non-Malay guest at the gathering, Rahul, a friend from India) guest there. No. I didn't feel awkward at all being with people from different cultural backgrounds. I was bought up, studied with people from different backgrounds in school.
Going to their gathering gave me this old sentimental feeling in school. Joking loudly with each other in Malay and boys chasing one another... Those were the similar scenarios I used witness. With them, I can reminisce the voices of from the good old days...

With the friends I knew from MRSM, I tried to speak as much Malay as I can with them.
Come on! 13 years of using the language and putting it to waste later in life?
Also I speak in their language to make them feel comfortable with me.

Yesterday, I was talking to the club's advisor and my friend, Siti about their progress in the program. She told me that they are going to take their SATs soon and some of them did it last week. The current club committee are stepping down.

Zawier, club's chairperson and also a friend of mine told me the next semester would be their last before going to the US.

Writers' notes: So much of the recollection and fun from the gathering. Incidentally next semester would be my last too... For studying. The short semester is for final year project before going off to my internship in August next year. From the bottom of my heart, I will try to go as many gatherings I can in my final study semester including Mass Comm which I hardly show up.
Time flies. It is 2 years since I first came to uni and in about 10 months time I'm leaving my studies and I will be working in the society, for the people (well, I like to put it this way).
I should put studies as life collection. Not doing masters or anything in the future. Tired of studying, honestly...
