Of Turning Point In Politics...
This will be a musing (not forgetting banting) piece of opinion, from a student who wanted to get out and see the world she thought she knew.
I am interested in the art of politics, yet I hated it. I don't see why people are fighting over at a smallest matter. In addition with the media entering into the scene, the situation has become 'sensationalized' (is it a proper word to use anyway?).
Politics are everywhere. From the smallest organization unit to a large government unit.
Politics are inevitable. Somehow you will be drowned into a political scene not matter how much you avoid it. The elder you are, more political arena you will be involved (somehow).
Almost everyone in the world are paying attention (except me, I guess) to the upcoming Presidential Election in US. Obama-Romney, will the current President stay for another term or the Republicans will sit into the White House?
Just stay tuned to the news, social media on 6th and 7th November 2012 for the on-going elections and results thereafter.
Elections here and there. Indirectly, politics are here and there. Even at my university.
I was out from my comfort zone during 4pm today after I received a call from my friend. It was a small talk that she wanted me to come. It was a study-work program in the States. I am keen on going to the States. However, all of these can be planned after finishing my studies.
This opinion piece was meant for another event that I was not aware until about 30 minutes ago. The vote counting and results announcement of the new term of student council President and its' Vice Presidents. The upcoming student council team got my attention because a friend of mine was going for the highest position in the student council board. I had known him since my first day stepping into my university life. I wanted my friend to win, of course.
I arrived at half-way during the vote-counting. The President's results was utmost obvious. This friend of mine could not speed up to the chase. Another friend who was standing next to me, namely 'Boss' arrived few moments before me. He told me our friend got little votes. "So how? I can't see" I asked. "You see...? He's losing far behind. See that guy?!" said 'Boss' while pointing at the whiteboard.
Politics at university. Until today, I do not have a clear idea what does student councils are meant for in universities and colleges. It was always stated that student councils take care of the students' welfare. Students vote for those who they think are eligible to take care of their welfares. Did I get it right?
As an addition information, about 800 students voted for the new President and Vice President, out of 5000 students. What these numbers trying to tell? Low or high turn up rate?
Life in a university is a smaller version of the society. There is a lot of banting and rumours flying around, those who had extra privileges, ignorant people, those who are out to spoil and much more.
Decisions and results are obvious at a point, or maybe before the results are out, everyone knew about it.
My deepest regards to this friend who was not elected. You did your best.
This is my third final semester as a student. I would not be seeing how the new student council members be doing.
Writer's note: I am doing much of things that I have not done throughout my two-going-to-three years in uni.
